Most people are persuaded by the first impression of the way something appears to the eye. We live in a visual world where the more appealing something looks the more someone is going to want that something. When a company is trying to advertise and put themselves on the market one of the number one ways to get someone’s attention quickly would be to use graphic design. Whether it’s a business logo, a magazine ad, a letter, a mailer, a web banner, or a website it is all made by using graphic design.

One of the most successful companies out there would be Apple and when you think of Apple the first thing that comes to mind is the apple symbol. That simple apple symbol was made using a technique or tool called graphic design and is now one of the most popular logos around. Incorporating such a benefiting technology as graphic design into your advertising is a must and a great way to visually display your company in an appealing way.

Graphic design is a great way to get your message across to consumers and to persuade them into seeing how your company can help them. Everywhere that you look you will see some type of graphic design whether it’s the shirt you’re wearing, the label on your gum wrapper to big things like the billboard that caught your eye on the way to work or the logo on the blimp you saw in the sky.

The graphic designer works with their client in a way that will purvey their client’s message in an appealing and unforgettable way. Consumers can read a lot of information on a specific company and get an idea of what they do but in order to get someone to read that information a company needs to first look appealing and that is where an attractive logo, a nicely formatted brochure or business cards comes in to play. It’s all about a first impression that catches the eye and the consumer’s attention, and the most effective way to achieve that is by applying graphic design to your companies advertising strategy.

Graphic design takes skill and not all designs create appeal. When choosing your graphic designer it is a good idea to see previous work they have done and make sure they are trained with experience in the field. Once the graphic designer is chosen you will be on your way to revealing your company in an alluring way to your consumers to get your company message across in one that is visually pleasing.

In closing, using graphic design to brand your company is a great way to improve your marketing.

Sonic Graphics: Seeing Sound Review

Sonic Graphics: Seeing Sound Overview

Multimedia– and increasingly, the Internet– has redefined the way we look at printed matter, how we listen to sound, and how we react to products. As crossovers of media broaden the possibility of both personal expression and commercial design, Sonic Graphics/Seeing Sound explores the fusion of music and graphics. How are melody, harmony and rhythm played out in graphics? How does music influence design? How is it captured in static form as design?

The precedents for representing music in pictorial form go back to the early twentieth century, when Vasily Kandinsky experimented with synaesthesia and rendered sound and instruments as colors. More recent explorations include the avant-garde composer John Cage’s attempt to blend musical notation and calligraphy, capturing and blurring the essence of both. Today, digital technologies have augmented the dynamic interplay between sight and sound: it is this exciting area that Sonic Graphics examines.

Exemplary work from studios around the world is presented in three sections: “Notation” analyzes the use of sign and symbol systems in creating identity and branding for music artists, recording projects and performances; “Material” examines how products can package the essence of the music they contain; and “Atmosphere” looks at how space and multidimensional environments can be used to visualize sound. A reference section includes studio websites and a glossary.

The world of music has often been where today’s designer superstars have forged their graphic-design language. From club flyers to CD-packaging to concert posters, the culture of music offers unlimited possibilities for visual experimentation. Sonic Graphics not only showcases this rich genre, but is the first book to get to the heart of the relationship between music and its successful graphic expression.

Top Tips About the Academic Graphic Design Software

Thus, many graphic design artists and students will possess numerous software applications to suit their various tasks and needs. Take note, however, that you might be using only one or two of them most of the time because these are the first ones that you learned and mastered, thus, you work around their limitations. Well, this can be very limiting after a while especially with the increasing demands on the graphic artists to come up with more creative, more attractive and more lucrative designs.

Thus, what you need to grow as a student is to posses integrated graphic design software applications. These programs can include the ever-popular Adobe Creative Suite and Macromedia Studio, both of which are top-of-the-line industry standards. However, both can also be very expensive relative to a struggling student’s budget.

Fortunately, you can avail of their academic software versions. The basic requirement is that you should be able to prove that you are a student – or a teacher, for that matter – before you can purchase them, which means a valid school ID card is sufficient for the purpose. You can either contact your school’s bookstore for discounts or order the version online via a software reseller.

So, what exactly are academic versions of the graphic design applications? Well, these are the same versions as their full-boxed counterparts except that there are no user manuals and other printed instructional materials to guide the users even before opening the program. You get the full graphic design software, yes, but you have to explore it on your own sans the instructions.

Then again, with the availability of free online tutorials, you need not worry about the lack of the printed form. Plus, there is also the fact that even the software itself has a built-in tutorial for you to study so your issue with the user manual is resolved. Now, if only you can be patient to master new programs for their strengths in relation to your graphic design career, then you should be home free, in a manner of speaking.

Of course, as previously implied, the academic versions of graphic design software have significantly reduced prices, oftentimes anywhere from 50 to 60 percent off the list price, to cater to students and teachers in the academic setting. However, you must avoid taking advantage of these student versions because the requirement is that these software applications must only be used for educational purposes, not for commercial and profitable ends.

Now, you might be asking why big businesses are willing to slash their profits to provide for the academic versions of their software. Well, it is still business lest you think that there is a big sacrifice involved with their decision. Basically, businesses know that professional graphic designers stick to the graphic design software they learned and mastered in school. As such, the academic versions are designed so as to reel you in early on in the game, thus, creating a market even while you are still in school. And that’s how the world of graphic arts design turns!
